General Information About Student Organization Advisors

Advisors are critical to the success of a student organization. An active and involved advisor can help shape a student leader and the course of a student organization. This is mutually beneficial for both the students and the advisor. Some benefits include:

    • Engaging outside of the classroom
    • Sharing common interests
    • Continuity of the group as members leave/graduate
    • Encouragement, support, and guidance to help students make decisions

All student organizations are encouraged to have an on-campus faculty/staff advisor.  To help better understand your role and responsibility as a student organization advisor, please download and read the following:

Additionally, the Student Organizations Handbook is an excellent resource for advisors.  The Student Organizations team is also here to help.  Please contact us if you have questions, need clarification, or want more information about student organization advising.

Thank you for taking the time to invest in our students as a student organization advisor. We appreciate your efforts.

    Affiliated Advisors

In addition to the on-campus faculty/staff advisor, groups may choose to also have up to two "Affiliate Advisors". Affiliated advisors usually come from the local community and are seen as an added resource for an organization. All the information and responsibilities listed above apply to affiliated advisors.

    To become an affiliated advisor:

    1. Download and complete the registration form and submit a copy of a government issed ID.

    2. After the registration form is turned in, download and follow the instructions to complete the background check (if applying for the fist time)

    3. After all paperwork is complete, the Student Organizations Program Coordinator will assist affiliate advisors with getting access to UNCC resources

*The registration process is a rolling process and open all year.

NOTE: All affiliate advisors must re-apply and complete the "Affiliate Advisor Application" each year by the second Friday in September. The background check will be completed with the initial application.
