Student Organizations Excellence Awards Banquet

April 2014

The Student Organizations Excellence Awards recognize the accomplishments of student organizations and leaders at UNC Charlotte.  The annual awards banquet will be held sometime in April, in the Student Union Multipurpose Room 3rd floor.  Listed below are the categories for recognition (subject to change).

Excellence Awards Categories: 

Outstanding Student Organization 
Recognizes the student organization that demonstrated consistent flexibility, initiative, creativity, and perseverance; made a meaningful contribution to students, the University, and/or the surrounding community; and organized activities, events, and programs that have had a significant impact on the quality of campus life at UNC Charlotte.

Outstanding GRADUATE Student Organization 
Recognizes the graduate student organization that demonstrated consistent flexibility, initiative, creativity, and perseverance; made a meaningful contribution to graduate students, the University, and/or the surrounding community; and organized activities, events, and programs that have had a significant impact on the quality of campus life at UNC Charlotte.

Outstanding New Student Organization (registered after January 1, 2012) 
Recognizes a newly registered student organization that exhibited initiative in organizational development and strong potential to contribute to the quality of life as a recognized student organization at UNC Charlotte, and established a positive presence within the University and/or in the surrounding community.  Collaborated with other student organizations and/or University departments.

Outstanding Student Organization Program
Recognizes a student organization program that enhanced the University community by utilizing a different and creative approach; explored and fostered innovative and efficient ways to reach and involve diverse student audiences; and coordinated and managed a fiscally sound, well-planned program that was open to all UNC Charlotte students.  Events that took place from March 1, 2012 to March 31, 2013 are eligible to be nominated.

Best Example of Teamwork by a Student Organization
Recognizes the student organization that most embodied the elements of teamwork, collaboration, and quality programming that benefit UNC Charlotte; and worked most effectively with other student organizations, University departments, and/or the greater Charlotte community.

Outstanding Contribution to the Greater Community by a Student Organization 
Recognizes a student organization that made a meaningful contribution to the surrounding community through service, addressed an existing problem, was committed to working with and for others, and successfully inspired and motivated others to act. 

Outstanding Student Organization Web Presence 
Recognizes a student organization with the most impressive web presence. Items for assessment include a combination of a web page and uses of social media. Consider the web page originality, creativity (layout and graphics), usability/navigation, and up-to-date/pertinent information. Created by a student and not professionally maintained. Submitting a Facebook Fan Page or number of Twitter followers alone will not be accepted.

49er Pride (This category is not only for "spirit" organizations.)
Any recogznized student organziaiton providing leadership, 49er spirit and campus participation in major university events (i.e. Week of Welcome, Homecoming, Greek Week, Family Weekend) during the 2012-2013 academic year is eligible.  

Outstanding Student Organization Leader
Recognizes a student leader who provided exemplary service, commitment, and strong leadership to a student organization and UNC Charlotte; made a meaningful contribution to members of the organization; motivated the group; made him/herself available to student organization members and brought out strengths and talents of individuals in the group; exemplified integrity in all words and actions; and demonstrated initiative by seeking ways to challenge the present and enrich the future.

Leadership Legacy 
Recognizes a student leader whose long-term dedication and commitment have made a positive impact on sustaining the visibility of a student organization.  Presented to a long-standing member of the organization that has left a positive mark on the group and at UNC Charlotte.

Quiet Influence / Unsung Hero 
Recognizes a student that puts his/her heart and soul into everything he/she does, but often goes unrecognized, works "behind the scenes," goes above and beyond typical requirements of a student organization member.

Outstanding New Advisor 
Recognizes an advisor in his/her first or second year advising a student group who provides outstanding support for the organization in all situations and gives organization members fresh ideas that enhance their learning.

Lifetime Achievement for Student Organization Advising 
Recognizes an advisor who has at least three years experience as a student organization advisor at UNC Charlotte; has had a positive impact on a student organization and the University community; and  demonstrates strong advising skills, is readily available to students, and takes great strides to help the organization's leaders.
 

Awards and Recognition:

Student Organization award recipients and individual award recipients will receive a plaque in recognition of a job well done!

EXCELLENCE AWARDS - April 2014

Student Organizations Excellence Awards banquet and program beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room, Student Union.
